(372—289 до н. э.) — китайский философ, представитель конфуцианской традиции. Родился во владении Цзоу (совр. г. Цюйфу, пров. Шаньдун), исторически и культурно связанном с государством Лу (на полуострове Шаньдун), откуда происходил Конфуций, и учился у его внука Цзы-Сы. Мэн-цзы — потомок аристократического рода Мэнсунь из царства Лу. Он обобщил 4 конфуцианских моральных нормы, то есть «жэнь» (гуманность), «и» (справедливость), «ли» (ритуал), «чжи» (мудрость). Он считал, что среди этих четырех норм «жэнь» и «и» — самые главные.
