Hansik
Celebrated in both North and South Korea, Hansik is the spring festival. It falls on April 5th, the 105th day of the Korean calendar. An ancient tradition of this day is the practice of only eating cold foods. Hansik occurs around the same time as Arbor Day around the world, so a new tradition is planting trees and shrubs.

Arbor Day (April 5th): As a result of the deforestation from the Japanese occupation of Korea and the Korean war, the government designated April 5th as Arbor Day and promoted it as a time for citizens to go green and plant a tree. Note that this is no longer an official holiday, although some people do still plant trees on this day.

Greenery Day (みどりの日 Midori no hi?) is a Japanese holiday. Between 1989 and 2006 it was celebrated on April 29. In 2007 Greenery Day was moved to May 4.

The present observation of Greenery Day as a national holiday in Japan stems from the celebration of the Emperor Shōwa's birthday on April 29 every year during the Shōwa era. In 1989, following the ascension of the current Emperor Akihito to the Chrysanthemum Throne, the name of the holiday was changed from "Birthday of the Emperor" to "Greenery Day".
