How hard is it to get to Tsinghua or Peking University in China, for a Chinese student?
It's around the top 0.04%~0.3% in College Entrance Examination (depending on the province or city) who can make it to these universities.(Update: this was the case other than Beijing. In Beijing it's about 1%)
You need either extreme intelligence and hard work, or being smart and a ridiculous amount of work, and in some cases, say Sichuan, Shandong, Henan, luck.
It's competition beyond imagination. Plenty of students in Hebei, Shandong study like 15~16 hours a day and 28~29 days a month.
If you make it into P or T and if you're not from the 'super high schools' your big photo will be hung in your high school and your teachers are likely to be bragging about you for ages.
Students from Beijing, Shanghai have a better chance speaking from the statistic perspective. But it's still really hard.
