“Hanagumi” and “Flower Troupe” may be used interchangeably on this site. Flower Troupe’s signature color is pink, and the current top stars are Asumi Rio and Kano Maria.
For the first years of the Revue’s existence there weren’t enough seito to create different troupes, but in 1921 they began dividing performances into two groups, with the first group (called Hanagumi) doing the first section of a performance, and the second group (called Tsukigumi), doing the second section of the performance. By the late summer of 1921, Hanagumi and Tsukigumi were official.

Musumeyaku (娘役 ): literally, “Young Woman Role-Player”
The women who are assigned to play female roles in the Takarazuka Revue. Interestingly, the word musume means “young woman” while the word otoko (as in otokoyaku) means “man”. A more equivalent term for the actresses playing female roles would be onnayaku as onna is Japanese for “woman”. Some fans and actresses use this term to refer to older musumeyaku e.g. Senka members and upperclassmen. However, it is not an officially recognized Takarazuka term.
